Quite Suite 2
Quite a Box of Tricks
Quite a Box of Tricks is a Plug-in that offers a suite of tools for Adobe Acrobat. These tools enable you to perform several operations on a PDF file that are useful in the digital pre-media process and that are difficult, time consuming, expensive, or just impossible without these tools.
The Shrink option crunches PDF elements by re-sampling images, and includes a compression facility not found within Distiller, called JPEG extra. Cleverly, screenshots can be left uncompressed. This process is useful for repurposing PDFs that were composed for use on-press, into more compact versions for use on the Web. You can apply custom settings to either the current page or to the entire document. After the operation has been applied, the porgramme reports on the original and new sizes.
The RGB Gone option is a colour converter that changes RGB or spot-colour images/usage to CMYK with any necessary ICC profile applied – essential for press- or print-optimised PDFs. It can also dispose of colour altogether, replacing it with the relevant grayscale shade, and convert all colour text to black – very handy if the final output is to a mono laser printer.
The Colour option provides you with the opportunity to convert colours, such as RBG to CMYK, all colours to grayscale, or all text to black. You can apply the colour transformation to the current page or to the entire document and may apply an ICC profile for a precision conversion.
The Transformation option flips, scales and freely rotates PDFs. But the real plus is its Thicken Lines feature. Hairlines don’t usually output correctly from an imagesetter, and using this feature, you can set a minimum line-thickness. The transformations may be applied to the current page or to the entire document.
The Info option provides PDF info so you can get full details on the images and text in a file, including type (RGB, CMYK etc.), compression ratio, and JPEG level. For text, find the font used and whether it was embedded and/or subsetted. You can also recompress or subsample individual images in a document. A Find option is provided so that you can search for the largest image, or for any RGB or Lab image that requires conversion.
The Fields option applies to form fields that have been created using the Form Tool. Fields grants control over form fields that can be removed or made part of the document – very useful when text has been patched via a form. The changes can be applied to the current page or to the entire document.
Quite Revealling
Quite Revealling, a Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat, provides information about the composition and structure of a PDF document. You can see information that is not otherwise visible, that would be used or needed in a prepress digital workflow context. Extremely easy to use, Quite Revealling is designed for pre-press professionals, and those producing files for press use.
Quite Revealling can also fix some of the more awkward problems that can arise – like differently named spot plates, unwelcome transfer functions, or ICC profiles that don’t belong. When you start Quite Revealling, you will be able to choose what information you want to see. All functions are only one click away from the control centre.
Quite Revealling provides a view showing both the original PDF, and the items selected to be revealled, in a side-by-side view. Revealled details can be changed or modified (e.g. profiles can be untagged, and all transparency effects can be removed).
The Quite Revealling control panel can be displayed in its initial short form, or expanded to its long form (revealling more options). You can select from the options to Reveal plates, Reveal profiles, Reveal fonts, Reveal overprinting, Reveal transparency, Reveal image resolution, Reveal transfer functions, and Reveal halftone screens.
The upper window of the control panel shows the list of items that are in the current PDF. The selection of any one of the items (such as a font), will result in a listing of the characteristics, in the lower window, that can be viewed.
Quite Revealling offers control than would be otherwise unavailable. In the area of plates and colours, for example, you can convert selected spot colour items to CMYK, or convert all spot plates to CMYK, or merge two spot plates, or perform other related operations.
For each of the Quite Revealling categories, the user manual provides an explanation of the function, why controlling it is important, what can be seen on-screen, and what can be modified.
Quite Revealling has built-in “one-button” actions that make light work of some of the most common needs in fixing up a file, which can be difficult or impossible with other tools. Quite Revealling is simple to use and quick to learn so you’ll be up and productive in no time!
Quite Imposing Plus
Quite Imposing Plus can take a PDF from any source, work out the signature formula for the most common types of layouts, (saddle stitched, perfect bound and cut stacks), shuffle the pages for the imposition and show you the layout in a new PDF document for checking, saving time and money.
It can also deal with bleed and creep and can even guide you through a manually imposed layout. You can automate the process by naming a sequence of commands and playing them back on any other PDF file.
Another popular feature is the easy to use booklet maker, which can make a foldable booklet from just about any PDF file. Quite Imposing Plus works completely visually in Acrobat, and you choose which files to print, save for later, or throw away.
